We would like to invite you to join us on our TT escape to the Lombardy region of Italy which is home to the Italian Lakes and home to the historical city of Bergamo.

The area is also a great base to explore the northern part of Italy. Venice is close by and can be reached in just 2 hours by train while Milan and Lake Como & Garda are just one hour away. The area has some of the most alluring contrasting lakes and mountain scenery in the world. Lake Iseo is such a place, an extraordinary natural environment that presents itself in front of our eyes and captures us with its mix of art and nature, handcrafts and good cuisine. Here nothing is missing; everything that one can desire for a relaxing break is available at Lake Iseo and this becomes real and concrete.

There is no frantic frenzy, no pollution, no stress and if you look above you can see the blue sky that embraces the homes and paths; the sun reflects in the blue waters of the lake and will keep you company during walks, the art culture and the nature. In the evening the imposing calm of the lake will magically mirror in the surrounding mountains as they reflect themselves or the sun that at sunset throws gently its last rays colouring the surface in breathtaking colours.

Lake Iseo - Italy's best kept secret!

The stunning Lake Iseo is the fourth largest lake in Northern Italy. It is quieter and less developed than neighbouring Garda and has a perimeter of about 60km. The lakeside towns are linked by a public boat service which allows you to get from Lake Iseo hotels to other peaceful destinations. The main town of Iseo is on the south shore, its medieval origins evident in the street patterns, arcaded shopping areas and pleasant squares.

The most striking feature you will see on holidays in Lake Iseo is Monte Isola island, the largest inhabited lake island in Europe. This is home to 11 small communities, traffic-free and easily reached by boat from the lakeside towns of Iseo and Sulzano - the perfect spot for a peaceful stroll. There is also gentle walking around the Torbiere del Sebino adjacent to Iseo Town. It's a lakeside wetland nature reserve, and sure to be the highlight of Lake Iseo holidays for bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

For those who wish to travel further afield from Lake Iseo, you can combine your holiday with trips to Verona, Venice, Bergamo or Lake Garda.

Bergamo - A majestic Italian city

With its wealth of medieval, Renaissance and baroque architecture, Bergamo is one of northern Italy’s most intriguing cities.

Bergamo comprises what are essentially two separate towns. The most interesting, by far, is its hilltop città alta (upper town), protected by more than 5km of heavy-duty walls. A funicular carries you from the western edge of the upper town up to the quaint quarter of San Vigilio. The walk to San Vigilio offers some stunning views. Down on the plain, the sprawling città bassa (lower town) is a mishmash of modern buildings and wide, traffic-filled streets.

Although Milan’s skyscrapers to the southwest are visible on a clear day, historically Bergamo was more closely associated with Venice, which was in control of the city for 350 years until Napoleon arrived. And despite its long domination by outsiders, Bergamo’s upper town has scarcely changed, retaining a strong sense of local identity.

Milan, Verona and the lakes can be accessed by train and are around 1 hour away while Venice is only 2 hours by train.
